Life Science Research
The life science research market offers tremendous opportunities due to its vast size and its continued rapid growth. The fluorescence illumination and precise motion control capabilities offered by Lumen Dynamics are ideal for research involving cellular microscopy. In particular, many life science research applications involve the study of life at the cellular level. For these applications, high-resolution optical microscopes are employed to view, image and manipulate individual living cells. For many of these applications, adjunct tools to the microscope are required for the precise illumination, excitation biological sample being examined, and for positioning of various probes near to, onto, or into an individual cell. In addition, precise motion control is required to position the microscope objective, and therefore the entire microscope, to a particular area of interest of the sample.
Fluorescence Illumination
In the rapidly expanding fields of cellular and molecular biology, fluorescence illumination, an image enhancement technique that uses excitation of fluorescent "tag" molecules within a specific wavelength region to produce an image generated by the secondary fluorescence emission, is becoming one of the techniques of choice. These techniques, which are almost universally employed in both the medical and biological sciences, have spurred the development of more sophisticated microscopes which require better illumination systems. Since 2002 the X-Cite® has set the standard in performance and reliability for fluorescence illumination systems.
