MILESTONES AT-A-GLANCE
2011
Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA, [February 23, 2011] - Lumen Dynamics, a global leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of innovative specialty light delivery solutions, achieves the 2010 Prism Award for Photonics Innovation in the Test, Measurement and Metrology Category. Awarded for its X-Cite® XP750 Objective Plane Power Sensor, Lumen Dynamics triumphs within a competitive category positioned against 14 other industry recognized companies.
Winners of the Prism Awards, the premier competition for the photonics industry worldwide, were announced at a banquet in the Union Square Hilton in San Francisco held during SPIE Photonics West 2011, the world's largest international event encompassing industrial and medical applications of optics, lasers, and photonics. The Prism Awards, introduced for the first time in 2008, recognize the best in innovative technology within the multi-billion dollar business of optics and photonics. A distinguished panel of independent judges acknowledged as experts in their respective fields selected the winners from more than 80 entries. And, nine industry leaders (including Milton Chang, Stuart Schoenmann, Robert Edmund, and Michael Mertin) presented the awards to the winners.
Lumen Dynamics' award-winning X-Cite® XP750 Objective Plane Power Sensor is designed especially for measuring power in watts at the specimen level for fluorescence microscopy applications. The XP750 achieves an impressive dynamic range without the use of attenuating filters, allowing it to maintain a sleek form factor that fits easily on the microscope stage of both upright and inverted models; making it easy and convenient to obtain consistent and repeatable illumination throughout research experiments.
"We are very proud of our latest achievement of a 2010 Prism Award for the X-Cite® XP750," stated Allan Firhøj, President and CEO of Lumen Dynamics. "The XP750 is an intuitive and powerful measurement tool built on precise engineering to overcome the intricacies involved in enabling researchers to measure power at the objective plane with highest accuracy and convenience. This award is a true testament of our ability to combine innovation, functionality and ease of use in our products to deliver solutions that help our customers focus on their research."
In addition to allowing researchers in maintaining complete experiment documentation, the multifaceted XP750 offers tremendous value as a diagnostic tool for multi-user facilities, technical sales representatives, service centers and individual microscopists in assisting with equipment set-up and troubleshooting.
"These winning inventions demonstrate the remarkable creativity of the photonics community, the restless inventive energy that is what SPIE is all about," said SPIE CEO Eugene Arthurs. "I expect that many of these or their derivatives will be successful new products - the lifeblood of any company. They will help customers be more effective and so be a part of the great photonics enterprise that has already contributed so much to enhance our lives and that will play an increasingly important role in a sustainable future."
